The Modi government has approved establishment of a National Investment and Production Zone (NIMZ) at Kalinga Nagar in Jajpur district. Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal informed the Rajya Sabha that Centre took steps in this regard after receiving a proposal from the Odisha government.
He said steps are being taken for creation as well as improvement of the existing external connectivity infrastructure of the area.
Goyal said for improvement in the 121 km long Paradip-Kalinga Nagar section, work is underway to upgrade and expand the transport route of NH-200 connecting Chandikhol and NIMZ. The stretch will be developed into a six-lane road up to the NIMZ at Kalinga Nagar.
Work orders have been issued to contractor-agencies on EPC mode in three packages to expand the Talcher-Duburi-Chandikhol stretch to four lanes, the minister informed the House. On expansion of the Brahmani Bridge Goel said the decision was taken earlier to expand the existing two-lane bridge to six lanes in order to meet overcrowding of vehicular traffic.
The Chandikhol-Duburi part of NH-200 will be expanded for another four lanes. The existing two-lanes will be left as it is and a new bridge with three lanes will be constructed as part of developing the new transport route.
Besides, National Highway No. 215 from Jajpur Road to Panikoili has already been expanded to four lanes. On the railway front construction of 104.24 km of railway track between Anugul and Jajpur is underway which will connect Angul with Joda . A new railway line is under construction between Angul and Sukinda.
Detailed Project Report has been implemented at Pankapal on the south of the NIMZ for an international water transport terminal. It includes a 450-metre berth, a warehousing field covering one lakh square feet area, and a store house covering 600×40 meter area. This berth can be utilized for export of products of Kalinga Nagar industrial zone.
