In a bid to develop the infrastructure of the pilgrim city of Puri, the High-Level State Committee chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has sanctioned Rs 265 crore for five projects.

According to an official release, five infrastructural development will be done under the ‘Abhada Yojana’ of the State Government in the land of Lord Jagannath which is thronged by lakhs of devotees from all over the world to provide the devotees and tourists with high-quality services and facilities.

The meeting decided to construct 1250 shops at the localities of Old Jail area in the Puri city along with Jatrika and Municipality market areas. A multi-level parking space will be constructed on the premises of Puri Old Jail to accommodate 400 vehicles. Similarly, a multi-level parking space will be constructed at Jatrika with a capacity for accommodating 400 cars. All the government offices including the Puri Collector’s Office will be accommodated under a single roof to serve the people in an effective manner.

Those offices thus vacated will be developed as parks and other facilities for the citizens. The meeting also decided to renovate the Municipality Market into an ultra-modern market complex.

The high level meeting also decided that the Acharya Harihar Chhak road stretch will be expanded and various citizen-centric services and beautification activities will be undertaken. All these works will be executed by the Works Department and Odisha Bridges & Constructions Corporation.
