In a novel way, the Millennium city denizens have started organising a signature campaign to protest against the move of the state government to shift some major government offices from Cuttack to Bhubaneswar. People from different walks of life including office bearers of different social and cultural associations, Puja Committees, traders bodies, students organizations and intellectuals untied under aegis of ‘Ama Katak’ a people’s organization, in a meeting at Deula Sahi on Tuesday, decided to protest the move to shift government offices from here by organising signature campaign daily.
“The state government in order to implementing the 5T formula is planning to shift major offices including Directorate of Industry, Directorate of Technical Education and Training (DTET), Directorate of Fisheries and Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary services from Cuttack to Bhubaneswar. Hence, it was unanimously decided to hold signature campaign daily in different localities of the city to protest the move,” said Convener of Ama Katak Sukant Mohanty.
The local social organizations who were assigned to conduct the signature campaign in their respective localities have started the signature campaign in the city from Wednesday.
Signatures collected during the campaign will be sent to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik through a parcel from Buxi Bazar GPO in each interval of 10 days, Mohanty told adding that the signature campaign would be continued till the state government changed its decision.
The organization has also decided to take out a mass rally from Cuttack to Naveen Nivas to urge him for his intervention in stopping shifting of the government offices to protect the historic city from turning into a ‘Dead City’.
