In view of the challenging COVID-19 situation and its impact on the livelihood of people, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday announced a Rs 2200 crore package for the welfare of poor people in the State.
Under the package, 94 lakh beneficiaries under food security cover will be given ration for three months in advance and Rs 1000 each, COVID 19 Chief Spokesman Subroto Bagchi said here at his daily briefing. Rs. 940 crore will be spent for the purpose.
Bagchi said 48 lakh beneficiaries under different social security schemes will be given four months’ pension in advance for which Rs 932 crore will be spent. Similarly, Rs. 330 crore will be given to 22 lakh registered construction workers @Rs. 1500.
“The State Government has declared COVID-19 as State Disaster and instructed different authorities to manage the situation according to Disaster Management Act-2005. The Chief Spokesman said food and shelter have been ensured for around 5547 workers from other states stranded in Odisha during the lockdown in 36 camps”, informed Mr. Bagchi. These workers are from Bihar, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Kerala, Telengana, Punjab, Delhi, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh.
