Odisha government on Monday issued fresh guidelines for the disposal of bodies. PK Mohapatra, additional chief secretary to the State Health and Family Welfare Department in an official letter declared that no swab test will be undertaken for deceased. Bodies of COVID-19 suspects should be cremated as per COVID norms without having to wait to confirmation of positive results.
“In few cases, persons with Covid-19 symptoms under treatment/quarantine die before their swab can be tested for Covid-19. In all such cases, the dead body may be disposed of as per COVID norms.
“The move will ensure the grieving family does not face any trauma. Moreover, there will be no delay in disposal of the body of the deceased after death,” Mohapatra added.
Numerous cases of delay in disposal of bodies at several places in the State were reported as people even the relatives of the deceased are reluctant to touch bodies fearing Covid-19 infections.
