The state recorded 1503 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The total positive cases in the state now stand at 26892, as per official statement released by the State health department. Apart from this, Odisha also witnessed 7 casualties during the time span of 24 hours.
Of the fresh cases, 1002 have been detected from various quarantine centres while 501 are local contact cases. With 491 cases, Ganjam district has reported the highest number of corona positives, followed by Khurda with 223 positives, Cuttack (136), Gajapati and Kandhamal with 73 cases each, Rayagada (68) and Jajpur with 51 cases.
Meanwhile the district administration of Balasore declared five areas in Kaura Gram Panchayat of Basta block as containment zones on Monday after the detection of five COVID-19 positive cases.
The areas declared as containment zones are Debendra Giri Chhak (entrance point), Karua Primary School Chhak, Gangadhar Sahu Chhak, Das Sahi Chhak and Kai Simili Chhak. District Collector K Sudarshan Chakravathy informed that the containment order in these areas will remain in force for a week with effect from 5 am on July 27 till 5 am till August 3.
