Within a span of 24 hours, 57,118 positive cases were added to the COVID-19 tally in the nation taking the total cases to 16,95,988 on Saturday. This marks the highest single-day surge in COVID-19 cases in India so far.
764 people succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours, taking the country’s death toll to 36,511. The cumulative recovered cases (10,94,374) have surpassed active cases by 5,29,271. India’s recovery rate remains at 64.53%. The fatality rate of cases fell to 2.15 %.
The number of COVID-19 sample testing labs has increased to 1,339 including 428 private labs. There are 684 RT-PCR based testing labs, including 268 private labs. A total of 1,93,58,659 COVID-19 samples have been tested so far, including 5,25,689 on Friday.
On Friday, Andhra Pradesh became the third-worst coronavirus-hit state in the country surpassing Delhi. The state has added over 30,000 cases to its tally in the last three days, taking its total of those infected to 1,40,933, including 1,349 fatalities.
