Landslides triggered by torrential rains in a residential area of Rajamala of Kerala’s Idukki district has claimed seven lives on Friday.As many as 10 people have been rescued after the landslides occurred.
A 50-member strong special task force team of the fire force has been dispatched to Rajamala in Idukki to fasten up the rescue operations. Another team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) arrived at the landslide site in Rajamal. Medical teams from Ernakulum and Kottayam districts have been deployed to Idukki.
Heavy rains in several parts of Kerala have triggered floods and landslides which have wreaked havoc in the state over the past few days. On Wednesday, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a red alert in Idukki, Wayanad and Kozhikode districts.
