- Construction of 11 Multipurpose Indoor Stadiums in 5 Mining Affected Districts
- Multipurpose Stadiums to Function as Shelter Homes During Natural Calamity
With an aim to strengthen sports infrastructure in Odisha, the State Government is establishing 89 multi-purpose indoor stadiums. This will provide a major impetus for the development of sports in the region. The multipurpose indoor stadium project under the 5T initiative is led by Sports & Youth Services Dept, Govt of Odisha to enable transformation of the Sports sector in the state. In recent years, Odisha has been recognized as a leading destination for sports events and promotion of sports due to continued progress in the same.
The primary objective of the initiative is to encourage physical fitness and support sports activities among the younger generation. People from all walks of life, including students, youth and local players avail to these multipurpose facilities for exercise and yoga.
By providing a platform for sports such as Weightlifting, Badminton, Table Tennis, along with gymnasium and yoga centres, the program aims to create an environment of fostering physical & mental fitness and well-being among the youth. Trainers are also employed at the stadiums along with modern equipment to help users exercise and train better.
To supplement the efforts and nurture development of youth through sports, the Odisha Mineral Bearing Areas Development Corporation (OMBADC) has supported the initiative. As part of the same, 11 Multipurpose Indoor Stadiums are being constructed across 5 mining affected districts.
The project focuses on constructing state-of-the-art Multipurpose Indoor Stadiums in 5 mining districts of Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj & Jajpur. OMBADC is financially supporting the construction of these indoor stadiums. The 11 Multipurpose Indoor Stadiums are located in Belpahar, Brajarajnagar, Rourkela, Birmitrapur, Rajgangpur, Barbil, Joda, Anandpur, Champua, Vyasanagar & Udala.
These Indoor Stadiums are not only dedicated to sports activities but are also equipped to serve different purposes. The facilities can be operated as shelters during natural calamities and pandemics or any other emergencies, showcasing the versatility and resilience of the infrastructure.
Apart from Multipurpose Indoor Stadium, various other development initiatives in the sectors of education, health, environmental preservation, drinking water, road connectivity and livelihood are being carried out in different mining affected districts of the state with the support of OMBADC.
