Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi stated on Monday that all departments must ensure that government officials engaged in corrupt practices experience constant anxiety over the possibility of being apprehended at any moment, emphasizing that dishonest behavior will not be tolerated.

During the observance of Vigilance Awareness Week, Majhi noted that corrupt officials often evade the scrutiny of anti-corruption agencies. “We must create an environment where corrupt officials live in fear, understanding that the government will take decisive action against them. It is essential that these individuals feel a sense of unease, knowing that their corrupt actions could be exposed at any time, leading to their arrest by Vigilance or other agencies,” Majhi asserted.

The Chief Minister remarked that such a state of apprehension would serve as a deterrent to corruption. “Eradicating the roots of corruption cannot be achieved in a few months or even a year; a sustained effort is necessary to combat this issue,” he added.

Referencing the recent collaboration among various departments and agencies during the rescue and relief operations for cyclone Dana, Majhi highlighted the importance of teamwork in addressing corruption within the state. “It is not solely the responsibility of the Vigilance to combat corruption; collectors, Superintendents of Police, and senior government officials must also take proactive measures to eliminate unethical practices,” he stated.

This year, Vigilance Awareness Week is being observed from October 28 to November 3, with the theme ‘Culture of Integrity for Nation’s Prosperity.’ Majhi participated in a state-level event organized by Odisha Vigilance at Lok Seva Bhavan, where he administered the integrity pledge, as circulated by the Central Vigilance Commission, to public servants and the citizens of the state. The IT department facilitated video conferencing to connect all collector and block offices for this initiative. They took the pledge.
