The Srimandir Parikrama, an ambitious initiative initiated by the previous BJD administration, is set to undergo a redesign. The addition of ‘Yagna Mandaps’ is planned for the 75-meter heritage corridor surrounding the 12th-century Shree Jagannath temple. Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan indicated that the government is contemplating the construction of mandaps such as ‘Kruta Yagna’, ‘Anna Yagna’, and ‘Gyana Yagna’, with the specifics to be determined within the next two to three months.

He stated, “Discussions regarding the design modifications and the introduction of new features are currently in progress. Given that the Parikrama project holds significant religious importance for the Odia community, it will be thoroughly deliberated”.

The Law Minister stated that the state government has been contemplating modifications to the Parikrama design for a considerable period. He indicated that the project will undergo a redesign incorporating new elements into the existing framework.

At the inauguration in January, the Srotriya Brahmins, appointed by Gajapati Dibyasingha Deb to perform the ‘Maha Yagna,’ requested the then Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to preserve four ‘Yagna Kundas’ established for this purpose. They expressed that these ‘Yagna Kundas’ could facilitate the revival of the ‘Maha Yagnas’ tradition at the shrine.

The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has announced the introduction of a dress code for Supakar servitors tasked with selling ‘Mahaprasad’ in the Ananda Bazaar, effective December 25. This initiative, sanctioned by the Suara Mahasuara Nijog, mandates that these servitors don saffron-colored uniforms. The primary objective of this decision is to deter unauthorized individuals from selling Mahaprasad, dry ‘prasad’, ‘khaja’, and other products within the Ananda Bazaar.
