On Saturday, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi instructed agriculture officials to ensure that all farmers impacted by the unexpected rains receive financial support. He requested an assessment report by December 30. Once the report is received, the aid will be deposited directly into the farmers’ bank accounts. During a high-level meeting to discuss the situation, Majhi noted that farmers in the state have faced losses due to unseasonal rains since December 20. He urged farmers to report their crop damage to the government by December 29.

The meeting revealed that 1.26 lakh farmers have reported their crop losses under the PM Fasal Bima Yojana. The CM encouraged all farmers, whether insured or not, to report their losses through the ‘Krishi Rakhatha’ portal or by calling 14447 by today, according to an official.

Majhi also instructed officials to launch a large awareness campaign to help insured farmers file claims with insurance companies for their crop losses within the required timeframe. Attendees of the meeting included Deputy CM KV Singh Deo, who oversees Agriculture, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari, Food Supplies Minister KC Patra, and Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja.
