Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced on Tuesday that the state government intends to introduce education in the Santali language from primary school through to university level. This statement was made during the inauguration of the seventh annual conference of the Odisha chapter of the All-India Santali Writers’ Association.

Majhi expressed that achieving the goal of providing education in Santali by 2025 would serve as a significant homage to Pandit Raghunath Murmu, who developed the Ol-Chiki script in 1925. He urged Santali writers to engage in dedicated efforts to advance the language, traditions, and culture of their community.

He emphasized the importance of translating Santali’s literary works into other languages. Additionally, Majhi paid respects to the late Kandra Murmu, the founder of the association, and the former president, the late Rupchand Hansda, while also launching a literary magazine published by the association during the event. The conference was presided over by Saroj Kumar Soren and attended by various MLAs and distinguished members of the community.
