The capital of Odisha is currently embellished with lively decorations and extensive preparations as it gears up to host the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) from January 8 to 10. The city, particularly Janata Maidan, radiates a festive atmosphere, with the state government diligently working to ensure that this three-day event offers an unforgettable experience for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and other delegates arriving from around the world.

Under the guidance of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, the state administration is committed to highlighting the rich culture, hospitality, and potential of Odisha. External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar arrived in Bhubaneswar on Monday evening, coinciding with the arrival of nearly 60 NRIs who have come to participate in the program.

Key officials, including Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Principal Secretary of the Industries Department Hemant Sharma, and Principal Secretary of the Information and Public Relations Department Sanjay Singh, have been supervising the extensive arrangements. The event, which honors the contributions of the Indian diaspora to the nation’s development, will feature a variety of activities designed to strengthen ties with NRIs and promote investment in the state. Janata Maidan, the designated venue, has been transformed into a lively center showcasing a fusion of traditional and modern decor.

The thoroughfares leading to the venue are adorned with vibrant banners, flags, and illuminated displays, while cultural performances are poised to showcase the rich heritage of Odisha. Significant attention has been devoted to ensuring that the infrastructure meets world-class standards, with advanced facilities established to facilitate the seamless execution of the event. Additionally, the Congress party has announced the cancellation of all programs for seven days to pay tribute to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is anticipated to draw a considerable number of Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), government officials, and business leaders, all convening to deliberate on issues related to economic development, cultural exchange, and the enhancement of global connections. In preparation, the Odisha government has organized a series of events, including discussions on business and investment prospects, workshops, and cultural exhibitions that will provide insights into the state’s heritage.

“We aspire for this event to create a lasting impact on the delegates, highlighting not only Odisha’s potential as an investment destination but also its rich cultural legacy,” stated Chief Minister Mohan Majhi. The Chief Minister underscored that the state government has prioritized making the venue accessible and comfortable for attendees, with exceptional security and logistical arrangements in place.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, while extending a cordial welcome to the attendees, remarked that the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas presents an outstanding opportunity to strengthen the bonds between Odisha and the global Indian diaspora. He emphasized that the event would serve as a platform for NRIs to engage with state leaders and explore potential collaboration in various sectors, including industry, education, and tourism.

“For the next few days, Janata Maidan will be a convergence point for hundreds of delegates who will discuss issues such as the future of the Indian diaspora, cross-border collaborations, and the role of technology in shaping future relationships. The event will culminate in a cultural extravaganza, highlighting the state’s diversity and welcoming spirit,” said state BJP president Manmohan Samal.
