President Droupadi Murmu appointed Justice Arindam Sinha as the acting Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court

The Orissa High Court held an emotional farewell ceremony on Friday for Chief Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh, who is set to conclude his tenure on Sunday. He has led the Odisha Judiciary for approximately eleven months, having assumed office on February 7, 2024. The Full Court reference was conducted under the leadership of Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo, the Senior Judge of the High Court. Concurrently, President Droupadi Murmu appointed Justice Arindam Sinha as the acting Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court.

On Thursday, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi and Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati also extended their farewells to Chief Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh at the Lok Seva Bhawan Convention Centre.

According to a notification from the Law Ministry, “The President is pleased to appoint Justice Arindam Sinha, Judge of the Orissa High Court, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of that High Court effective from January 20, 2025, following the retirement of Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh on January 19, 2025.”

Justice Sinha began his legal career as an advocate on March 11, 1991, practicing for 22 years primarily in the Kolkata High Court, with a focus on civil law. He was appointed as an additional judge of the Calcutta High Court on October 30, 2013, and became a permanent judge on March 14, 2016. He was later transferred and took the oath as a judge of the Orissa High Court on October 8, 2021.
