To establish Odisha as a prominent aviation hub on a global scale, the state government convened a consultative meeting on Monday with key stakeholders to discuss the development of maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facilities. The meeting, chaired by Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, focused on creating an investor-friendly policy framework aimed at making Odisha the preferred choice for MRO operators, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), and airlines in the eastern region, by the Industrial Policy Resolution (IPR) 2022.
Ahuja emphasized the objective of positioning Odisha as a leader in India’s aviation sector, noting that the state government is providing significant incentives, including skill development initiatives, to enhance local talent and promote sustainable industrial growth. This initiative represents a crucial step towards realizing the vision of Viksit Odisha.
Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary of the Commerce and Transport Department, detailed the state’s ambitious strategy to become a global aviation hub by capitalizing on the strategic advantages of the Jharsuguda, Bhubaneswar, and Puri airports. She remarked, “Odisha’s competitive edge stems from its status as a leader in aluminum production, combined with a robust industrial ecosystem, making it an optimal site for world-class MRO facilities.”
Padhee stated that the state government is dedicated to offering substantial financial incentives, which include a 30 percent capital subsidy for Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) investments. Additionally, the government is promoting skill development initiatives to cultivate a proficient workforce in alignment with the 2022 Industrial Policy Resolution (IPR).
She noted that the state has partnered with its Singaporean counterpart to implement global best practices in the fields of aviation and MRO operations. Notable industry representatives, such as GMR Group, Star Air, Safran, Max Aerospace, Pritnee Aerospace, and the MRO Association of India, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, were present at the event.
