Singaporean media highlighted President Tharman Shanmugaratnam’s visit to Odisha, emphasizing collaborations in skills training, green energy & semiconductor sector development

The recent visit of the President of Singapore has received extensive coverage in the media of Singapore. The Straits Times reported on the visit in detail, highlighting that Singaporean companies and educational institutions will collaborate with Odisha on initiatives related to skills development and green energy, as reported by its correspondent Anjali Raguraman. 

According to the news report, Singaporean enterprises and higher education institutions will partner with Odisha to enhance the state’s capabilities in skills training and green energy production, among other areas. This collaboration includes a joint training program between Singapore’s ITE Education Services (ITEES) and Odisha’s Skill Development and Technical Education Department (SD&TE), which aims to leverage Singapore’s expertise in the semiconductor sector to equip young Indians with skills relevant to the burgeoning semiconductor industry in their country. The partnership in green energy is also expected to receive significant support, as indicated in the report. 

In another news article quoting President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, it was mentioned that there is potential to expand the air services agreement between Singapore and India, which was last updated approximately a decade ago. Both nations will also collaborate in various sectors, including skills development, green energy, insurance technology, semiconductors, and the establishment of new-generation industrial parks.

A social media update from the President stated that India and Singapore are embarking on a new trajectory following the visit to Odisha. During his trip, the Singaporean President met with President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi before concluding his visit to India.
