Odisha and organizations from Singapore formalized a series of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) on Friday, aimed at enhancing collaboration in critical sectors including semiconductors, renewable energy, skill development, the establishment of industrial parks, the green hydrogen corridor, and the development of a new city in Bhubaneswar. The MoUs were signed by Singapore’s President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Odisha’s Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
President Tharman Shanmugaratnam is on a two-day visit to explore diverse business opportunities. Singapore has been designated as the official partner for the forthcoming Utkarsh Odisha (Make in Odisha Conclave-2025), which is the state’s biennial investment summit scheduled for January 28th and 29th.
Upon his arrival at Biju Patnaik Airport, President Tharman Shanmugaratnam received a warm welcome from Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, followed by a visit to the World Skill Centre in Bhubaneswar. Chief Minister Majhi remarked, “In our efforts to attract investments to the state and participate in the Utkarsh Odisha Conclave 2025, we engaged with various investors in Delhi and Mumbai and conducted roadshows. We have invited them to invest in Odisha and assured them of our full support and necessary infrastructure.”
Majhi stated that as part of their initiative, they traveled to Singapore to investigate business prospects across various sectors, including petrochemicals, semiconductors, and information technology. During their visit, they hosted a business summit and extended an invitation to the President of Singapore to visit their state. He further noted that the President honored their invitation and visited the state, resulting in the signing of Memorandums of Understanding in eight business sectors. Majhi expressed satisfaction with these developments, emphasizing that future investments would significantly benefit Odisha, all achieved within seven months of their administration taking office.
The Chief Minister announced that the President is scheduled to visit Raghurajpur village in Puri district and the Sun Temple at Konark on Saturday. Majhi remarked on the substantial potential for collaboration between Singapore and Odisha. Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja delivered a presentation that addressed key areas such as skill development, industrial parks, master planning, ports including Paradip, renewable energy, semiconductors, information technology, data centers, culture, and connectivity. This presentation underscored Odisha’s initiatives and the opportunities available for partnership with Singapore in these vital sectors.
The President also toured the Vertical Transportation Lab and Travelator Lab at the World Skill Center, engaging with students and instructors, which highlighted Odisha’s dedication to promoting technical education and innovation.
