The Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) has achieved a new milestone in terms of publishing examination results within a record time. “We are being able to announce the results within a week time from the last date of examinations,” informs Prof. Amiya Kumar Rath, the Vice-Chancellor.
The apex institution under Government of Odisha governing technical and management education in the state, aims to ensure that the results of various examinations are being published on time. “The university has demonstrated this in the last two academic years by adopting transparency, e-evaluation methods and the commitment of the institution,” adds Prof. Rath.
BPUT has 135 constituent colleges. Out of these, 10 are government colleges, and 125 are private institutions spreading over Odisha. While conducting the examination and awarding certificates to the successful students, the university aims to fosters knowledge, skills and innovation and boost their competitive spirit by hosting a series of events.
Under the academic session 2024-25, a total of 1,31,715 students had appeared the examinations in various streams. The exams were conducted in two phases.
As per the data shared by the University, in the first phase, 48,907 students, with 2,71,031 answer scripts, were evaluated at 52 centres by 1,079 evaluators. The examination under this phase was started on November 25, and ended on December 19, 2024. Interestingly, the university published the results on December 24, i.e. within five days of the last date of the examination.
Similarly, in the second phase, 58,001 students, with 3,30,430 answer scripts, were evaluated at 52 centres by 1,275 evaluators. The examination which started on January 9 ended on January 28, 2025. Demonstrating the commitment, BPUT authorities published the results within seven days i.e. on February 4, 2025.
Further, as scheduled, the convocation ceremony of the university was held on February 5, 2025 i.e within a day of publication of final results.
“As per our process, we have advised all the constituent institutions to handover the hardcopy of the final degree certificates to the respective students by hosting ‘Graduation Day’ at the college level,” says Prof. Amiya Rath while taking to OdishaPlus on the reforms adopted by the university for the benefits of the students and the ecosystem.
It is interesting to learn that how the university is being able to achieve such timeline in publishing the results. “Instead of waiting till end of the examination of all the papers, we collect the answer sheets in multiple phases and start the evaluation process. The answer sheets, which are collected, are being digitized, coded and uploaded to the e-evaluation platform and assigned to the various examination centres while the examination of other papers are going-on. By implementing this strategy, our team is able to complete the evaluation, tabulation etc. within a record time,” reveals the VC.
In India, many students face critical issues in pursuing the higher education and exploring job opportunities due to delay in publication of the results and issue of certificates. Especially, this has become common in many government universities and higher education institutions. However, BPUT becomes the first and only university in Odisha to implement such e-examination system by adopting technology and resolving any delay in the evaluation and publication process.
As a new practice, BPUT makes the grade-sheets and provisional certificates available online for the students within three days of the results being announced. It helps the students to quickly download the documents at their convenience.
Handling of such a huge number of answer scripts, mobilizing the end-to-end e-evaluation process and streamlining the results is not an easy task. “Every staff member at BPUT, who are involved in the process, puts a lot of efforts to achieve the collective target,” appreciates the VC Prof. Rath.
The original degree certificate issued by BPUT to every pass out student has also a different story to tell. This techno-enabled document carries 20 security features contributing to its authenticity. These features include QR Code carrying the unique details of the students, 2D hologram, UV Code, Watermark carrying the name of the students and many more. The certificates are also water-resistant, non-tearable and self laminated to maintain its durability.
Each certificate carries the original signature of the Vice-Chancellor. Further, different colour codes used for UG, PG and PhD level make each certificate unique. The foundation stone of Biju Patnaik University of Technology was laid in the year 2003 by the then President of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. Today it offers Ph.D, Master Degree and Undergraduate Degrees in the areas of engineering, management, pharmacy, architecture, planning and other courses helping the youth become future-ready.
