Patha Pranta Pathagar (The Roadside Library) represents an innovative approach to promoting reading among the public in the face of the pervasive influence of social media. This initiative was inaugurated on January 20 by Dr. Tarun Kanti Mishra, a distinguished former Chief Secretary of Odisha and a notable figure in literature, recognized for his contributions as an Odia short story writer.

The library has been established through the sponsorship of Dasarathi Mishra, a former Chief General Manager of the Reserve Bank of India and the Chairman of the Abhyutthana Foundation Charitable Trust, located at his residence in Kanan Vihar, Bhubaneswar.

Dasarathi Mishra is widely acknowledged for his efforts in enhancing financial literacy across the state, conducting regular workshops in schools, colleges, and rural areas to promote depositor education and awareness. His trust has received recognition from both the Reserve Bank of India and the Securities and Exchange Board of India for its educational initiatives.

Mishra’s endeavor aims to make educational and literary activities more accessible and to encourage financial inclusion. Such roadside libraries are a common feature in developed nations. Recently, Prime Minister Modi highlighted a successful initiative by a female student who established a free box library in Nagaland during his popular program, Mann Ki Baat.

It is anticipated that this unique initiative will benefit the local community, particularly the younger generation residing in the area. The library operates 24/7, allowing individuals to freely borrow books and, if they wish, contribute their books to the collection. The dynamic community of Kanan Vihar and its surrounding regions took part in stimulating literary discussions with T K Mishra, resulting in a noteworthy interaction centered on the enriching realm of literature.
