World Skill Center Bhubaneswar, stands as a transformative institution for students, especially those from rural backgrounds. World Skill Center (WSC) Academy’s Life & Employability Skills training program is designed not just to equip students with technical abilities but to nurture the interpersonal skills that will serve them throughout their careers.

This program is a cornerstone of WSC’s curriculum, focusing on fostering growth beyond courses offered. It emphasizes skills that are crucial in the real world, preparing students for national and international job placements. The importance of holistic development is paramount.

It’s not just about enhancing advance technical skills. It’s about preparing students for all aspects of life, empowering them with the tools to thrive in professional and personal settings. Through life skills, students learn to express themselves, collaborate effectively, and adapt to the demands of the modern workforce.

“Communication helps to build rapport with the colleagues & relationship with others and lets us convey our ideas confidently. Time Management is another skill that I have learnt in Life Skills classes. I thank World Skill Center and Government of Odisha for giving me the opportunity to become a professional in my career”, said Ranjan K Mahanta, Student, World Skill Center.

One of the key components of the program is strengthening competency in English communication. Listening, reading, speaking, and writing are the four fundamental pillars that students focus on to enhance their communication skills. Mastery of these skills helps students not only in the workplace but also while interacting with peers, clients and employers, both locally and internationally.

In addition to communication, students learn the power of creative thinking, a critical skill for problem solving and igniting innovation at the workplace. The program also includes modules on customer interaction, teaching students the nuances of building rapport, handling queries, and offering solutions. Feedback collection is emphasized as a tool for continuous improvement in both personal and professional growth.

“Life Skills has taught me how to become creative, deal with customers, collect their feedback, do teamwork, collaboration with different companies & team members”, said a student Alisha Begum.

The program also stresses the importance of time management and punctuality. Being on time and managing one’s schedule effectively are key to building professionalism. Students are taught to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and make the most of each workday. These habits, cultivated during the training, set students up for success in their careers and beyond.

For many students from rural backgrounds, the program is a life-changing experience. Students like Ranjan K Mahanta and Alisha Begum, who once felt overshadowed by their urban counterparts, are now speaking with confidence in interviews, presenting their ideas with clarity, and embracing opportunities they never thought possible. Through rigorous training, they’ve gained the confidence to step out of their comfort zones, knowing they have the skills to excel in any professional setting.

By the end of the training, students like as Ranjan and Alisha no longer hesitate to present themselves effectively on various platforms. Whether it’s for a job interview, a team meeting, or a public presentation, they now have the self-assurance to showcase their abilities. They have learned to speak confidently, think critically, and interact with others with poise.

“Students from rural backgrounds often face challenges in speaking and presenting themselves in front of an audience. However, through the comprehensive training in Life & Employability Skills at WSC Academy, we encourage them to engage in conversations and participate actively. With consistent practice over the course of a year, they gradually build the confidence to present themselves effectively”, says Ashutosh Nayan Dey, Deputy Director, WSC Academy.

The World Skill Center Life & Employability Skills program bridges the gap between dreams and reality. It prepares students from diverse backgrounds to step into the professional world, not just with technical knowledge, but with the confidence and interpersonal skills required to succeed.
