Expressing confidence that Odisha will become a leading force in the steel industry, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi stated on Friday that the state is fostering a favorable environment for investors. We are emerging as an economic powerhouse among the top five states in the nation regarding economic growth. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has indicated that Odisha will serve as the growth engine for transforming India into a Viksit Bharat by 2047, and we are already progressing towards this goal,’ Majhi remarked to reporters during the Steel India 2025 event, co-hosted by the Ministry of Steel and the industry organization FICCI.
He emphasized that steel is the foundational industry of the eastern state, noting that Odisha is currently at the forefront of steel production in India, with an output exceeding 41 million tonnes. ‘Our objective is to elevate steel production to 130 million tonnes by 2030,’ he stated, predicting that by then, Odisha will contribute approximately 50 percent of the nation’s total steel production.
Furthermore, he mentioned that the mineral-rich state received investment proposals totaling Rs 17 lakh crore during the two-day business conclave, ‘Utkasrh Odisha,’ held in January, with a significant portion earmarked for the steel sector. This initiative is expected to generate 9 lakh job opportunities within the state. He attributed these prospects to the ‘double engine sarkar’—the same political party governing both the Centre and the state, prioritizing infrastructure development, including improvements in road, port, and rail connectivity to support the industry. ‘We have also introduced a new industrial policy that provides financial incentives to businesses, which is significantly more straightforward and transparent than similar policies in other states,’ he concluded.
