Without adjustment it’s impossible to move forward. But sometimes we find it harder to adjust in situations. Today we’ll be discussing such questions in the column Finding Hope with DLM.
Why is adjustment important in life?
In our lives there are many situations where we may not like certain things, but we certainly can’t live without them. This is where we need to adjust. Adjustment is a psychological phenomenon and a behavioral process. We are living in an environment that is dynamic both physically and emotionally. Everything is changing every moment. So we must be in a position to adjust to the changing conditions. Otherwise, we would fall short of our desired destination!
What are the important qualities for adjustment?
We need to remember that there can be no adjustment without acceptance. Acceptance creates the much needed space for adjustment. If you can’t accept a situation, you will keep on resisting. And as long as you keep on resisting, you can hardly adjust to it. So the will to change and accept is quite paramount and of capital significance as far as the question of adjustment is concerned.
What are the major challenges to acceptance?
The major challenge is one’s ego. If there is ego, the scope for acceptance is scantier. Ego never lets us accept things it doesn’t like. But when the situation is that important, we need to manage the ego accordingly. Another challenge is our ever-the-same attitude. We need to change our attitude as per the demands of the situation. Without adequate attitudinal and behavioral flexibility it is really hard to accept people and situations around.
How to move forward without something we like or desire?
Happiness is certainly a state of mind. We need to manage our mind in the best possible manner. We can’t get what we want always. Life is a journey of never-ending finds and losses. We need to adjust constantly and move forward. The process of self-exploration and self-motivation is all so vital. Moreover, one must reflect on every experience and realize the realities; since experience is the root of life’s wisdom. It’s only by creating newer spaces for newer things within that we can lead a meaningful life that mostly consists in learning, realization, change and adjustment.
