The government of Odisha is preparing to offer the ‘Mahaprasad’ at the Jagannath temple in Puri to devotees at no cost, as announced by a state minister on Sunday. This initiative is expected to be implemented in the near future, according to Odisha Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, who spoke to reporters.

Harichandan indicated that the free distribution of ‘Mahaprasad’ would require an additional annual expenditure of approximately Rs 14-15 crore from the government.

“We are seeking the participation of financially capable devotees to collaborate in this initiative. Several individuals have already expressed their willingness to support this effort,” he stated.

The implementation phase is expected to commence following the sacred Odia month of ‘Kartik’, which occurs in two months. Additionally, specific provisions have been established for ‘Habisyalis’, the women who engage in particular rituals during this month, as stated by him.

“We are in the process of developing a design aimed at enhancing the public darshan of the Jagannath temple. A specialized system will be instituted to ensure that devotees encounter no difficulties while visiting the 12th-century shrine,” Harichandan remarked.
