At least two women have lost their lives, and six others are reported to be in critical condition after allegedly consuming a dish made from mango kernels in the Kandhamal district of Odisha, according to officials.
Officials indicated that one woman passed away at a local health facility on Thursday night, while the second succumbed to her condition on Friday while being transported to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. The six individuals in critical condition are currently receiving treatment at the same facility.
Some residents have claimed that they are compelled to consume this dish due to a lack of rice provided under the National Food Security Act (NFSA). However, Kandhamal collector Amrit Ruturaj stated that rice has been distributed to the families of the deceased as well as to those currently receiving treatment.
