The government of Odisha announced on Wednesday the initiation of the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020 across all schools within the state. Additionally, it has been decided to incorporate the National Curriculum Framework with a focus on local contextualization.
In a bid to enhance the educational framework in the state, the government has formally ordered the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020, as outlined by the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India, as stated in a notification from the School and Mass Education Department.
It is important to note that the state government had previously declared in November of the prior year the adoption of the NEP in all state-run universities and affiliated colleges, effective from the current academic year. The Higher Education Department had issued a notification for the NEP’s implementation in all undergraduate (UG) programs offered by higher education institutions under its jurisdiction, commencing with the 2024-25 academic session.
The objective of implementing the National Education Policy 2020 is to revolutionize the higher education sector, promoting multidisciplinary learning, skill enhancement, a choice-based credit system, multiple entry and exit points, and increased flexibility in education, as detailed in the notification.
