A low-pressure area currently over the Strait of Malacca and adjoining South Andaman Sea is expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm over the southern Bay of Bengal.

It is expected to strengthen into a cyclonic storm over the southeast Bay of Bengal in the next 48 hours, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). This weather system could bring heavy rains to some coastal districts of Odisha between November 25 and 27.

Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari briefed the media, assuring that the state government is on high alert and fully equipped to handle any potential impact from the developing cyclone.

“We have implemented proactive measures and enhanced preparedness to ensure the government machinery is ready to manage the situation, even if the situation intensifies further,” Pujari stated.
