In a heartfelt demonstration of compassion and humanity, a woman constable from Odisha’s Malkangiri district has captured the hearts of many online after she intervened to assist a mother who was taking a crucial exam — even going as far as to breastfeed the woman’s crying infant to soothe him.

The event occurred at the Bibiguda examination centre on Sunday during the RI and Amin recruitment tests. The constable, named Rajani Majhi, was on duty ensuring exam security when she observed a candidate, Bhairavi Mandal, in visible distress due to her one-and-a-half-month-old baby crying outside the hall.

Recognizing the mother’s plight, Rajani stepped forward and offered to care for the baby so that Bhairavi could complete her exam without concern. For nearly two hours, Rajani cradled the infant in her arms, providing comfort and reassurance.

The officer — who is also a mother to a nine-month-old boy — even breastfed the baby out of genuine empathy and maternal instinct to help calm him.

Odisha Police later shared this touching story on X, stating, “Rajni Majhi, a woman constable at an examination centre in Malkangiri district, carried a one-and-a-half-month-old baby in her arms and assisted the baby’s mother in completing her exam. She continued to care for the baby until the mother left the examination centre. She exhibited a remarkable blend of motherhood and duty.”

The post included moving images — one depicting Rajani nurturing the baby, and another showing the relieved mother holding her infant after the exam.

Since then, the story has gone viral, with social media users praising Rajani’s act as a beautiful illustration of selflessness and the true essence of womanhood.
