Souvagya Mohapatra has been named Chair of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry Eastern Region Tourism Committee under the National Tourism Committee.
This development places Mohapatra in a leadership role focused on supporting tourism development across Eastern India through collaboration between industry, government and other stakeholders.
According to FICCI, he will contribute to discussions on policy, tourism infrastructure, destination promotion, investment facilitation and capacity-building initiatives.
Mohapatra has more than three decades of experience in the hospitality and tourism sector. He currently serves as Managing Director for India, Nepal, Bhutan and Sri Lanka at Atmosphere Core, where he oversees the company’s strategic expansion in South Asia while contributing to its broader growth across the Asia-Pacific region.
Atmosphere Core operates hospitality brands across the Maldives, India and the Indian Ocean region. The company has also announced plans to expand its portfolio with new hospitality projects in India.
Over the course of his career, Mohapatra has worked across hotel operations, business development and brand expansion. His experience includes hotel development, destination promotion and regional market strategy across multiple South Asian markets.
His leadership comes as India’s tourism sector continues to witness growth, supported by infrastructure development, increasing domestic travel and rising international visitor interest.
In his new role at FICCI, Mohapatra is expected to work with public and private stakeholders on initiatives aimed at improving connectivity, strengthening tourism infrastructure, enhancing service standards and promoting sustainable tourism practices.
FICCI said it looks forward to Mohapatra’s leadership in advancing the development and competitiveness of India’s tourism industry, particularly in the eastern region.
