National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) has signed a Technology Licensing Agreement with Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) for the deployment of EGA’s UAE-developed DX+ Ultra aluminium smelting technology for NALCO’s proposed 0.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) brownfield smelter expansion at Odisha’s Anugola.

The agreement was signed in Dubai in the presence of NALCO Chairman-cum-Managing Director Brijendra Pratap Singh and EGA Chief Executive Officer Abdulnasser Bin Kalban. NALCO officials Jagdish Arora, Director (Projects & Technical), and Abhay Kumar Behuria, Director (Finance), were also present at the signing ceremony.

Under the agreement, EGA will provide NALCO with the technology licence, technical know-how, designs and technical information required for implementing the DX+ Ultra technology. The UAE-based aluminium producer will also provide technical support during various stages of the project.

The DX+ Ultra technology is a high-amperage aluminium smelting technology designed to improve productivity and energy performance. NALCO said the adoption of the technology is expected to support efficient operations while optimising capital and operating costs at the proposed smelter.

The brownfield expansion at Anugola will add around 0.5 MTPA, or 5 lakh tonnes per year to NALCO’s aluminium production capacity. With the expansion, the company’s overall aluminium production capacity is expected to reach approximately 1 MTPA or 10 lakh tonnes per year, taking into account its existing capacity.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, NALCO CMD Brijendra Pratap Singh said the adoption of advanced smelting technology would support the company’s expansion plans and contribute to improving the efficiency of the proposed facility.

He also said the project would strengthen India’s aluminium ecosystem and contribute to the country’s economic growth while supporting greater environmental efficiency.

The agreement comes as NALCO progresses with its expansion programme aimed at increasing aluminium production capacity. The proposed Anugola project is expected to add to the country’s domestic aluminium production capacity and support demand from strategic and emerging sectors.
