In a candid conversation with the media, she revealed several interesting anecdotes, including her initial reluctance to accept the role that would become one of the most beloved characters in Indian cinema.
“I initially found the role of Basanti too small and was hesitant to take it,” Hema Malini shared. “But the director, Ramesh Sippy, convinced me.” Little did she know that this role would become a significant part of her legacy, with audiences still fondly remembering her as the effervescent and feisty tangewali. “The film’s enduring popularity and how people still lovingly remember my character, Basanti, is a wonderful feeling,” she expressed with gratitude.
