Bhubaneswar-based startup Velotech Innovations pioneers patented Bipolar Switching Induction Motor technology, cutting power consumption by up to 50%

From the fan overhead to the machines on a factory floor, electric motors quietly keep homes, businesses and industries running. Behind this everyday convenience, however, lies a significant energy challenge. Conventional induction motors consume large amounts of electricity, increasing both operating costs and carbon emissions.
Seeking to improve energy efficiency without overhauling existing manufacturing systems and compromising performance, Bhubaneswar-based Velotech Innovations Pvt. Ltd. has developed an indigenous motor technology that supports India’s manufacturing ecosystem.
Founded in 2022, the Electronic System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) startup has developed a patented Bipolar Switching Induction Motor technology that enables the manufacture of energy-efficient induction motors and the retrofitting of existing motors to reduce power consumption while maintaining performance.
Its innovations have been implemented in single-phase motors, 1 kW and 2 kW induction motors, and ceiling fan motors. The company also develops AC and DC power supply modules, motor controllers, customised motor solutions and is expanding its technology for industrial motor applications.
“Our innovations have been successfully implemented in single-phase motors, 1 kW and 2 kW induction motors, and ceiling fans, reducing power consumption by up to 50% without compromising performance. For example, a conventional 60 W induction fan can operate at just 25–30 W using our technology,” says founder Aditya Ranjan Sinha.

A distinguishing feature of the technology is its compatibility with existing manufacturing infrastructure, enabling manufacturers to adopt energy-efficient solutions without extensive capital investment.
“Our technology is designed for seamless integration into existing manufacturing infrastructure. SMEs producing induction motors can adopt our solutions without major modifications to their production lines. With an investment of only ₹3–4 lakh, manufacturers can upgrade their existing facilities to produce energy-efficient motors,” Sinha explains.
The startup has secured a patent for its Bipolar Switching Induction Motor technology, commenced manufacturing in 2026 and sold more than 5,000 fan motors, while undertaking deployments with organisations including Eastern Coastal Railway, Public Works Department, Odisha, IIT Bhubaneswar and Utkal University.
Throughout this journey, Startup Odisha, under the MSME Department of Odisha Government, has supported the startup through financial assistance, mentorship, networking, market linkages and ecosystem support, helping it progress from product development to early commercialisation.
