‘Odisha Media Parivar,’ an open group of media professionals from various sectors in the state, remembers late Ramoji Rao on his birth anniversary falling on 16 November. The fraternity offered a token of support to meritorious & economically weaker students of mass communication across various universities on the occasion.

“With his immense contribution to media & entertainment sector in India, Ramoji Rao will be an inspiration for the upcoming generation engaging in this field. Thus, on the occasion of his birth anniversary we extended a small support to some deserving students from different universities in Odisha, helping them to buy reference books and study materials,” informs Nilambar Rath, senior journalist & a former ETVian.

This support of Odisha Media Parivar has reached out to 6 studious students two each from Berhampur University Berhampur, Rama Devi Women’s University Bhubaneswar & Fakir Mohan University Balasore nominated by the Journalism & Mass Communication department of the respective institutions. In response the Head of the departments have expressed gratitude for this initiative.

The media fraternity of Odisha offer tributes to the visionary on his birth anniversary.

Ramoji Rao was ahead of his generation setting up various institutions in the areas of journalism, television & film production, tourism & hospitality, agro industries and finance etc. Through starting his early ventures from the state of Andhra Pradesh back in the year 1969, he expanded his footprints to the whole of the country in subsequent decades. A harbinger of the satellite TV boom in the country, Ramoji served largely to the regional news and entertainment television. He also played an important role in growth of television media in Odisha.

Rao’s contribution includes the Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad, currently under Telangana, widely catering to the Indian film industry. The facility has currently become a popular tourism destination among the theme parks of Asian countries.

His series of media ventures like Eenadu (Print), ETV (Television) & ETV Bharat (Digital) are considered as landmark organizations in the Indian media landscape.

Ramoji Rao was born in Gudivada village under Krishna District of Andhra Pradesh in 1936. He passed away on 8 June, 2024 leaving a legacy behind him.
