The government of Odisha will urge all legislators to consider adopting or supporting children residing in various childcare institutions throughout the state, as stated by Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida during the inauguration of the state-level children’s festival, Mahak, aimed at the residents of these institutions.

“Currently, over 8,000 foster children are accommodated in 225 childcare facilities across the state. Many of these children are vulnerable and in need of support, while others possess significant talents. The state government will appeal to MLAs to adopt or assist the weaker and underprivileged children, enabling them to transform their lives and reach their full potential. This initiative could serve as a model for other states and nations,” Parida remarked, expressing confidence that all legislators would endorse the proposal.

She also mentioned that a list of foster children is being compiled to streamline the adoption process. The foster children receive assistance from the state government through the Mission Vatsalya and PM Cares initiatives.

During the event, Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan emphasized the importance of providing special attention to children who, for various reasons, have not experienced parental love and care. He highlighted the necessity of nurturing their skills and inherent talents. The efforts of the Shishu Yatna Institute, which offers love, care, and goodwill to these innocent children, are commendable as they strive to bring joy to their lives and help them gain respect and dignity in society. The government should consider the proper upbringing of orphaned children and incorporate them into a dedicated scheme.

Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Sabyasachi Suraj added that by creating a digital platform to showcase their talents and promote their handicrafts, these children could achieve global recognition. The festival featured various competitions and programs, allowing the children from the childcare institutions to display their talents and enthusiasm. The five-day children’s festival will run until November 30 at Kalinga Stadium.
