In a significant move to foster youth entrepreneurship and sustainable growth, India is set to host the BRICS Youth Council Entrepreneurship Working Group Meeting from March 3 to 7, 2025. The meeting, themed “Youth Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Growth,” will bring together around 45 youth representatives from BRICS countries, including Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

The Department of Youth Affairs, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, is organizing the meeting to provide a platform for representatives of the BRICS Youth Council to exchange policies, programs, and cooperation prospects in the field of entrepreneurship.

The representatives will share their experiences in youth-related work and discuss cooperation in entrepreneurship among BRICS countries.

The meeting aims to achieve several objectives, including:

  • Establishment of the BRICS Youth Council: Entrepreneurship Working Group: This group will focus on discussing work plans related to entrepreneurship among member countries.
  • Discussing work plans and cooperation prospects: Participants will explore concrete actions to enhance youth cooperation in entrepreneurship.
  • Creating new youth formats: The meeting will discuss the creation of new youth formats aligned with the prioritized directions of BRICS and its Working Groups.
  • Connecting participants to international entrepreneurship opportunities: The meeting will connect participants to international entrepreneurship opportunities within BRICS countries.

Run-Up Events Across India
To prepare for the main event, the Department of Youth Affairs has been organizing eight run-up events in various universities and colleges across India. These events will provide a forum for healthy discussions and dissemination of India’s agenda on entrepreneurship to a wider public at the grassroots level.

The run-up events will feature panel discussions amongst talented youth speakers on pre-identified relevant areas. The first four run-up events have already taken place at Miranda House, Delhi University; Mata Sundri College for Women, Delhi; IIM Jammu, Jammu & Kashmir; and NFSU, Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

The remaining run-up events are scheduled to take place at KIIT University, Bhubaneswar, Odisha (February 4, 2025); IIT Guwahati, Assam (February 7, 2025) and IISc, Bangalore, Karnataka (February 11, 2025).

These run-up events will not only provide an understanding of contemporary global issues to the youth of the nation but also develop an international perspective among them and the importance of various multilateral forums.

Role of Youth in BRICS
The role of youth in fostering intra-BRICS bonds has been recognized by BRICS Leaders during past BRICS Summits. The youthful demographic profile of most BRICS countries, combined with their economic vibrancy, has been an asset in consolidating exchanges between BRICS countries.

The BRICS Youth Summit, a youth-led event, brings young leaders from the five BRICS countries to discuss and promote cultural and educational cooperation amongst BRICS youth. Six Youth Summits have been held so far, with the 6th BRICS Youth Summit held in hybrid format in 2020.

The upcoming BRICS Youth Council Entrepreneurship Working Group Meeting in March 2025 is expected to provide a significant platform for youth representatives from BRICS countries to exchange ideas, share experiences, and discuss cooperation in entrepreneurship. The meeting is likely to have a positive impact on fostering youth entrepreneurship and sustainable growth in the BRICS region.
