A Class XII commerce student from Pattamundai College in Kendrapara district, Odisha, took her own life on February 24 after reportedly facing sexual harassment from a college lecturer. The family reported the incident to the police on Saturday. The girl’s mother claimed that a teacher behaved inappropriately towards her daughter on the exam day. “He touched her inappropriately while checking for cheating during the exam on February 19. Later, he called her to the staff room and harassed her again,” the mother stated.
She added that when her daughter tried to speak up, the teacher threatened to expel her and warned her not to tell anyone about what happened. The girl went back to the exam but couldn’t concentrate. After learning about the incident, the mother informed the college authorities, who promised to look into the matter after the exams. Sadly, the girl took her life on February 24.
