The English translation of DVA SUPARNA by Prof. Soubhagya kumar Misra was launched in Bhubaneswar, taking acclaimed Odia literature to a wider national and global audience

Marking an important milestone in the promotion of Odia literature before the global audience, the English translation of DVA SUPARNA by renowned author and Sahitya Akademi Award recipient Prof. Soubhagya Kumar Misra was released on Friday at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Bhubaneswar.
The translated volume, rendered into English by noted translator Rabindra K. Swain and published by Ketaki Books, was unveiled at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in the presence of eminent scholar Prof. Kalidas Misra, who graced the occasion as the Chief Speaker.
The event brought together literary figures, academics, readers, and cultural enthusiasts to celebrate not only a book but also the growing journey of Odia literature beyond linguistic boundaries. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Kalidas Misra highlighted the literary significance of Prof. Soubhagya Kumar Misra’s work and stressed the importance of quality translations in introducing regional literary treasures to national and global audiences.
“Translation serves as a bridge between cultures and generations. It enables powerful literary voices to travel beyond geographical and linguistic borders,” he said.
A major attraction of the evening was the bilingual reading session featuring selected poems from the book. Poet Kedar Mishra recited the Odia poem Iran, followed by its English translation, also titled Iran, read by Bharadwaj Mishra. Poet Bharat Majhi presented Dwara in Odia, while Manua Dash recited its English version, Door.
Translator Rabindra K. Swain shared his reflections on the experience of translating the work, while the author, Prof. Soubhagya Kumar Misra spoke about the creative journey behind the book.
The programme featured an engaging interaction session where readers and writers exchanged perspectives on literature, translation, and the evolving role of regional languages in contemporary literary discourse.
With the release of its English translation, DVA SUPARNA takes an important step towards reaching a wider audience and strengthening the visibility of Odisha’s rich literary tradition. The book is now available at Ketaki Books’ Bhubaneswar outlet and through leading online platforms, making it accessible to readers across the country.
The publication represents another significant milestone in the ongoing effort to bring the richness of Odia literature to the forefront of national and international literary conversations.
