As we come to terms with the emerging trend of viral videos, news stories, and media information and reporting, a big menace like fake news has hit media professionals, intellectuals, governments and advocacy groups hard. Fake news is not a new concept for the world as it has been around for quite some time.
But the availability of people centric mediums like WhatsApp, Facebook, TikTok and others have made it difficult to track the origin of fake news while simultaneously increasing its ramifications manifold. There was a lot of fake news, misinformation, and rumor-mongering during the critical period of the COVID19 pandemic which made life difficult for the government, health workers and the general public among others. It has become very difficult for enforcement and watchdog agencies to track the flow of fake news and information and sometimes this leads to many untoward incidents in places around the world.
At such a crucial time, ASBM University Bhubaneswar has organized a webinar on the topic “Combating Fake News and Misinformation on the Social Media: Career Prospects In Communication & Digital Media.” The webinar is being held on 19 June Saturday from 4 to 5 PM.
