KOLKATA: According to police reports on Saturday, a medical college student hailing from Odisha was allegedly assaulted by unidentified individuals in the Paschim Bardhaman district of West Bengal.

The incident took place outside the premises of a private medical college in Durgapur on Friday night, as the second-year student went out for dinner with a friend, as stated by her family members.

The medical student, originally from Jaleswar in Odisha, is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital, according to a police officer.

“We have initiated an investigation based on a complaint filed by the family of the medical student,” he mentioned.

In a conversation with reporters, the student’s parents revealed that they arrived in Durgapur this morning after receiving a call from their daughter’s friends.

The mother claimed that her daughter was gang-raped late Friday night after she left the college campus to have dinner with a friend.

The father of the student stated that the family was informed about the incident through a phone call from her friends. “We came this morning and lodged a police complaint. We selected this college due to its esteemed academic standing, hoping to offer our daughter the finest opportunities,” he expressed.
