Among 19 institutions empanelled nationally, WSC receives three-year recognition under the multi-sectoral category
Bhubaneswar, November 4, 2026: The World Skill Center (WSC), India’s premiere advanced skill training institute in Bhubaneswar, has been recognised as a Centre of Excellence-Skills (CoE-Skills) by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Government of India, placing it among 19 institutions empanelled under the national framework.
The Certificate of Recognition was presented to WSC by Debashree Mukherjee, Secretary, MSDE, at a ceremony held at Kaushal Bhawan, New Delhi, on November 2. The empanelment is valid for three years, from October 9, 2026, to October 8, 2029.
WSC has been recognised under the Multi-Sectoral category, which acknowledges its institutional capacity to deliver advanced, industry-aligned skill training across multiple domains. The empanelled institutions include nationally reputed organisations, institutions of national importance and specialised centres of excellence.
Established under the Department of Skill Development and Technical Education, Government of Odisha, WSC provides advanced skill training through technology-enabled infrastructure, practical learning and industry engagement.
Commenting on the recognition, Rashmi Ranjan Mohapatra, CEO, World Skill Center, said, “This recognition marks an important step in WSC’s journey towards contributing to India’s evolving skill development landscape. Our focus is not only on developing a skilled workforce within Odisha but also on preparing young people to meet global industry standards and access opportunities across international markets. Through stronger industry partnerships, advanced training and institutional collaboration, we aim to contribute to Odisha’s transition from ‘Skilled in Odisha’ to ‘Skilled for the World’, positioning the state as a source of globally competent and industry-ready talent.”
Under the CoE-Skills framework, recognised institutions are envisaged as advanced, sector-focused centres that can contribute to the wider skilling ecosystem through specialised training, assessment, mentorship, career guidance, and the training of trainers and assessors.
For WSC, the recognition provides an opportunity to extend its institutional engagement beyond its existing training programmes and contribute to national-level skilling initiatives. This could include specialised training programmes, trainer capacity-building, industry partnerships and collaboration with other skill development institutions.
The recognition also comes against the backdrop of Odisha’s efforts to strengthen its position in advanced skill development. With greater institutional participation in national skilling initiatives, WSC’s role could extend towards establishing the state as a resource for industry-responsive training and talent development.
