As a large number of devotees are anticipated to visit Puri during the Panchuka period, the district administration has implemented comprehensive measures to facilitate a smooth darshan of the Trinity at Shree Jagannath Temple. According to reports, the daily rituals at the temple have been adjusted to accommodate the influx of visitors. Collector Siddharth Shankar Swain has indicated that this year’s Panchuka will span four days, leading to a significant gathering at the shrine. He noted that devotees will be permitted to enter through Simhadwar and exit via the other three gates.
Collector Siddharth Shankar Swain also mentioned that sun shades and fans have been installed along Badadanda to offer respite from the intense heat. Fire service personnel have been assigned to spray water on both the devotees and the roadway. Additionally, volunteers will be on hand to distribute drinking water to those waiting in line to enter the shrine. Barricades have been set up, and Badadanda has been designated as a no-vehicle zone starting from the municipal market square.
A significant influx of devotees is anticipated to partake in a holy dip in Mahodadhi, the five-kilometer stretch of sea extending from Chakratirtha to Swargadwar, on the final day of Panchuka, which coincides with Kartik Purnima. To ensure safety and prevent incidents of drowning, a sufficient number of lifeguards and fire service personnel have been assigned to the area. On this day, the temple priests conducted the customary rituals for the deities, including Mangal arati, Abakash, Mailum, Tadap laagi, Surya puja and Rosahoma, followed by the offering of Balabhog and Gopal bhog to the Trinity. Subsequently, the deities were adorned in Harihar Vesha.
In addition, 30 platoons of police personnel, along with senior officers, have been stationed throughout the town to uphold public order.
