Amid the nationwide controversy over the alleged deletion of eligible voters during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, the Odisha Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) on Wednesday launched a three-day special campaign to identify and enrol voters who may have been inadvertently left out.

The campaign, beginning Wednesday, will focus on verifying cases of eligible voters whose names were deleted during the revision and facilitating their inclusion in the electoral roll.

Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Laxmi Prasad Sahu said the enrolment of eligible voters left out during the SIR, if any, would continue till the end of October. The three-day campaign, however, will specifically focus on identifying such cases.

“As part of the special drive, booth-level officers (BLOs) will conduct door-to-door visits with lists of deleted voters to verify whether any eligible voter has been inadvertently left out and enrol them,” Sahu said.

The CEO’s office has also urged citizens to check the electoral roll and submit Form 6 if their names are missing.

Young voters who attain the age of 18 years by October 1, 2026, will also be eligible to apply for inclusion in the electoral roll.

More than 17 lakh names were removed from Odisha’s electoral rolls during the SIR exercise. The final electoral roll, published on September 21, put the state’s electorate at around 3.16 crore.

The deleted entries included around two lakh absent electors, 8.8 lakh voters who had permanently shifted, 8.32 lakh deceased persons, 1.58 lakh duplicate entries, and around 14,000 cases involving age-related discrepancies.

The special campaign aims to ensure that no eligible voter is left out of the electoral process due to accidental deletions or omissions during the revision.
