Odisha is concentrating on three primary areas—heritage conservation, adventure tourism, and Buddhist pilgrimage—to enhance its tourism industry.

The State Government has entered into three Memorandum of Understanding to foster a more resilient and inclusive tourism ecosystem, with the goal of positioning the state as a premier sustainable and culturally rich destination.

During the event, Manoj Ahuja, Chief Secretary, remarked: “As emphasized in the Odisha Vision 2036 document, tourism plays a significant role, and the ability of tourism to drive economic growth while safeguarding our culture and providing livelihoods for individuals is a strategy we are actively pursuing.”

The partnership with IIT Madras focuses on the scientific preservation of Odisha’s heritage sites. This collaboration entails the application of advanced methodologies for conducting structural audits, material assessments, and geotechnical studies. Additionally, it will encompass the preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), the implementation of sustainable architectural practices, and the provision of project management assistance for restoration activities. The primary objective is to guarantee the enduring sustainability and high quality of conservation initiatives.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Institute of Water Sports (NIWS) in Goa is intended to enhance safety and standardization in adventure and water tourism. NIWS will offer technical guidance on safety measures, perform safety evaluations, and deliver training programs for tourism operators and lifeguards. This initiative aims to broaden Odisha’s tourism potential, especially along its coastline, while generating job opportunities for the local youth.

The collaboration between the Odia Language, Literature & Culture Department and the Light of Buddhadharma Foundation International (LBDFI) aims to promote the rich Buddhist heritage of Odisha. This partnership encompasses the organization of annual prayer ceremonies at important locations such as Ratnagiri, Udayagiri, and Lalitgiri. Additionally, it focuses on enhancing visitor facilities, implementing digital engagement technologies, and organizing cultural and academic events. The goal is to improve visitor experiences and establish Odisha as a prominent destination on the international Buddhist pilgrimage circuit.

The strategic partnerships are in accordance with the Odisha Vision 2036 document, which highlights the significance of tourism in economic growth while safeguarding culture and creating job opportunities. The state’s strategy is comprehensive, integrating heritage preservation with innovation and international engagement. Through the execution of these initiatives in a ‘mission mode,’ Odisha aspires to evolve into a future-ready tourism hub that provides a wide array of experiences.

During the event, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Tourism, Pravati Parida, remarked that these three Memorandum of Understanding collectively embody the comprehensive vision of Odisha Tourism to protect our heritage, enhance our offerings, and broaden our global presence. She further emphasized the importance of implementing tourism initiatives in a mission mode to ensure the effectiveness of these three MoUs.

On this occasion, Suryabanshi Suraj, the Minister of Odia Language Literature & Culture, remarked, “It is a profound honor to witness this historic collaboration among three distinguished institutions—the Department of Tourism, the Odia Language, Literature and Culture Department, and the Light of Buddhadharma Foundation International. This partnership is driven by a significant goal: the preservation, promotion, and revival of Odisha’s unique Buddhist heritage.”

Balwant Singh, Tourism Secretary  will oversee the execution of the essential initiatives. These collaborations are integral to the state’s strategy for enhancing its tourism sector.

These strategic partnerships embody a comprehensive vision aimed at conserving heritage, innovating offerings, and broadening the state’s global presence. They are vital for establishing Odisha as a premier sustainable and culturally rich destination.
