The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced that a low-pressure area has developed over the Bay of Bengal and is anticipated to strengthen into a depression within the next 36 hours, potentially leading to rainfall in Odisha.

The weather agency has issued a ‘yellow’ warning (be aware) for various districts in Odisha for both Tuesday and Wednesday.

According to a statement from the IMD, a low-pressure system emerged over the southwest Bay of Bengal at 5:30 am on Tuesday, influenced by an upper air cyclonic circulation present over the sea on Monday.

The system is expected to “intensify into a depression over the southwest and adjacent west-central Bay of Bengal during the next 36 hours,” the statement noted, indicating that Odisha may experience light to moderate rainfall as a result.

Additionally, thunderstorms, along with gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 30-40 km/h, are likely to occur in one or two locations over Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri until 8:30 am on Wednesday, the IMD further reported.
