A prominent Congress figure from Odisha has sent a letter to former party president Sonia Gandhi, cautioning against “a rapidly deteriorating legacy and a leadership that is disconnected from the grassroots” while calling for corrective actions.
Former Barabati-Cuttack MLA Mohammad Moqium, in a detailed five-page correspondence to Congress parliamentary party leader Sonia, expressed his unsuccessful attempts to meet Rahul Gandhi over the past three years.
“A century-old legacy is in jeopardy—not due to electoral losses, but because of decisions made internally. If we do not take action, we risk losing the Congress we have inherited,” he stated, urging for reflection on the reasons behind the Congress’s six consecutive Assembly election losses in Odisha, in addition to recent defeats in Bihar, Delhi, Haryana, and Maharashtra.
“The state of our party, both in Odisha and nationwide, has become critical. In Odisha, we have suffered six consecutive losses, and at the national level, we have faced three electoral defeats. The recent results in Bihar, Delhi, Haryana, Maharashtra, and Kashmir, where we lost by significant margins, are not merely electoral failures, but indicate a profound organizational disconnection,” Moqium remarked.
He pointed out that a series of “incorrect decisions, misguided leadership selections, and the ongoing concentration of authority in inappropriate hands” have undermined the party. “Instead of rectifying these mistakes, we seem to be perpetuating them, and the repercussions are evident to the entire nation. Party workers at all levels are disheartened. They feel penalized for their loyalty.
