The Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar held its 14th Convocation ceremony on April 18, 2026, marking a significant academic milestone for the institute.

V. S. Ramamurthy, former Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, and former Director of the Institute of Physics, Bhubaneswar, attended the Ceremony as Chief Guest and delivered the convocation address. Shreepad Karmalkar, Director of IIT Bhubaneswar, presented the convocation report and conferred degrees on the graduating students.

A total of 802 students received degrees during the ceremony for the academic year 2024–25. This included 96 PhD scholars (12%), 177 M.Tech graduates (22%), 96 M.Sc students (12%), 102 Dual Degree recipients (B.Tech & M.Tech) (13%), and 325 B.Tech graduates (41%). The occasion marked a proud moment for students, their families, and the institute’s faculty and administration.

In his address, Ramamurthy stressed that excellence is a commitment, urging students to pursue their work with dedication and integrity. Referring to the discovery of the Higgs boson, he highlighted the importance of long-term vision, perseverance, and global collaboration in achieving transformative scientific breakthroughs. He also underlined India’s growing stature as an equal partner in international scientific missions and called for institutions like IITs to embrace global cooperation alongside competition to drive innovation.

Speaking on the occasion, Karmalkar highlighted the institute’s recent achievements and growth. He noted significant improvements in infrastructure, research output, industry–academia partnerships, and the startup ecosystem, along with a focus on sustainability initiatives. He also pointed out that the institute’s ranking in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025 for engineering improved by 15 positions to 39, while its overall ranking rose by over 20 places.

Looking ahead, he reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to interdisciplinary research, global collaborations, and preparing graduates to lead in an evolving technological landscape.

Karmalkar also read out a message from Rajendra Prasad Singh, Chairman of the Board of Governors, IIT Bhubaneswar, who could not attend the event.
