The Confederation of Indian Industry–Indian Green Building Council (CII-IGBC) organized the 3rd Edition of the Green Odisha Conclave in Bhubaneswar, bringing together policymakers, urban planners, industry leaders and sustainability experts to discuss sustainable development in the state.
Held under the theme “Green Buildings & Green Industries Towards a Holistic Sustainable Development,” the conclave focused on sustainable infrastructure, green industries, renewable energy adoption, climate resilience and resource efficiency.
According to IGBC, Odisha currently has 285 registered green building projects with a combined footprint of 57.57 million sq. ft. The portfolio includes commercial, residential, industrial and logistics projects, along with transit infrastructure and net-zero developments.
Senior government officials, including representatives from the State Pollution Control Board, the Town Planning Department and the Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Odisha (IPICOL), emphasized the need to balance rapid economic growth with environmental responsibility. Speakers highlighted the role of green buildings, resource-efficient infrastructure and sustainable industrial practices in reducing environmental impact while supporting development.
“Odisha is witnessing a remarkable phase of economic growth and industrial expansion. As we attract new investments and build future-ready infrastructure, it is equally important to ensure that development remains environmentally sustainable. Sustainability must move beyond policy discussions and become an integral part of how we plan, design and operate our buildings, industries and cities. By embracing green architecture, resource efficiency, natural ventilation, daylight utilization and ecological design principles, we can create infrastructure that supports both economic progress and environmental stewardship,” said Dr. Manoj V. Nair, Member Secretary, SPCB, Odisha.
Addressing the conclave, Satrughna Kar, Director of Town Planning, Government of Odisha, spoke about the need for integrating sustainable planning principles into the state’s rapidly evolving urban and infrastructure landscape. A panel discussion on sustainable economic growth explored issues such as renewable energy, green industrial infrastructure, climate resilience, resource efficiency and policy measures needed to support Odisha’s transition to a low-carbon economy. Experts from government departments, research institutions and development agencies participated in the deliberations.
The conclave also featured technical sessions on green and net-zero factories, climate-resilient industrial facilities, sustainable building materials, energy-efficient technologies and innovations aimed at reducing carbon emissions. Industry experts shared experiences and best practices for improving environmental performance and operational efficiency across sectors.
The event concluded with a call for stronger collaboration among government agencies, industry stakeholders, developers and sustainability professionals to accelerate the adoption of green building practices and low-carbon technologies, supporting Odisha’s vision for sustainable and inclusive growth.
