On Friday, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi launched the “Go East” initiative aimed at promoting industrialization in Odisha.
During his address at the Confederation of Indian Industry-Eastern Regional Council meeting, Majhi explained: “Go East represents the Government of Odisha-Eastern Investment Accelerator and Special Taskforce. Its purpose is to attract investments by providing a dedicated facilitation mechanism, policy support, and expedited project implementation.”
Majhi emphasized that Odisha is on track to become the premier industrial hub in eastern India within the next five years, stating: “A special task force will be established under the Go East policy. This task force will be responsible for accelerating ongoing industrial projects and fast-tracking investment proposals.”

Additionally, Majhi revealed that a dedicated Go East Cell will be set up within the Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Odisha (IPICOL). This cell will oversee the implementation of various projects and ensure real-time tracking of investment approvals. “We will implement a Go-Swift model to expedite the various projects,” the chief minister remarked.
Majhi’s announcement comes at a time when the state faces criticism for its slow progress in advancing industrial projects.
He articulated his vision for Odisha to evolve into a developed state by 2036, coinciding with the centenary of its statehood. He also mentioned amendments to IPR-2022, indicating that economically disadvantaged districts such as Kalahandi, Balangir, Nuapada, Kandhamal, Gajapati, and Boudh will receive special focus under the thrust sector status to encourage non-mineral-based industries. Officials noted that up to 15 districts will be included in the thrust sector.
Residents of Kalahandi district have been protesting against mineral-based industries.
Majhi stated that the state government has sanctioned 477 industrial projects valued at approximately ₹9.5 lakh crore since assuming office in June 2024. These projects are expected to create employment opportunities for around six lakh individuals. “Among these, 12 projects with investments surpassing ₹3.11 lakh crore have already progressed to the implementation phase. All these initiatives will be inaugurated soon. This demonstrates the state’s capability not only to attract investments but also to execute them in an expedited manner,” he remarked.
Odisha’s Minister for Industries, Sampad Chandra Swain, along with the additional chief secretary of the industry department, Hemant Sharam, also addressed the gathering.
