Odisha launches the Integrated Forest Monitoring & Command Centre (IFMCC) to strengthen digital forest governance, GIS monitoring, wildlife protection and sustainable conservation

Odisha Forest, Environment and Climate Change Minister Ganesh Ram Singkhuntia on Wednesday inaugurated the Integrated Forest Monitoring & Command Centre (IFMCC) at Aranya Bhawan in Bhubaneswar.

The state-of-the-art facility has been established by the Forest, Environment and Climate Change Department to integrate digital technologies into forest governance and sustainable natural resource management.

According to the department, the command centre will bring together real-time field data, satellite-based monitoring, Geographic Information System (GIS) analytics and decision support systems to assist in forest conservation, wildlife protection and disaster response.

Addressing the gathering, the Minister said the use of advanced digital technologies would help improve transparency in forest governance and support timely decision-making in the conservation and sustainable management of Odisha’s forest resources.

During the programme, officials demonstrated the Compensatory Afforestation (CA) Land Bank, the IFMCC dashboard and Version II of the Odisha Forest Management System (OFMS). Discussions were also held on the Wood-Based Industries Rules and the Eco-restoration Policy.

The Minister also launched the refurbished website of the Odisha Forestry Sector Development Society (OFSDS). In addition, two publications were also released – the Souvenir of the 14th National Workshop of JICA-Assisted Forestry Projects in India and the Annual Report of the Odisha Forestry Sector Development Project, Phase II (2025–26).

Among those present at the event were Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forest Force, Odisha, Dr. K. Murugesan; PCCF (KL), Uma Nanduri; Chief Project Director, Odisha Forestry Sector Development Project, G. Rajesh; Conservator of Forests (IT & GIS), V. Karthick; Special Secretary to the Government, Swayam Mallick; Director, Environment-cum-Special Secretary to the Government, K.S. Pradeep; and other senior officials of the department.
