Anupriya Patel, the Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers, stated on Friday that Odisha is on the verge of becoming a significant center for chemicals and petrochemicals, attributing this potential to its skilled workforce and advantageous coastal position. During a conference, preceding India Chem-2024, which is organized by the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers in collaboration with FICCI, she highlighted the extensive opportunities available in Odisha for manufacturing, job creation and exports within the petrochemical industry.

She noted, “The petrochemical sector, currently valued at USD 220 billion, is anticipated to exceed USD 1 trillion by 2047, with Gujarat, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh playing crucial roles. The government’s emphasis on enhancing domestic manufacturing and decreasing reliance on imports will further stimulate this growth.” Additionally, State Minister for Industries, Sampad Charan Swain, elaborated on the transformative effects of industrial policies and incentives for the petrochemical sector.

The India Chem-2024 summit is scheduled to take place at the Bombay Exhibition Centre in Mumbai from October 17 to 19. Other speakers included Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Joint Secretary of Chemicals and Fertilisers Deepankar Aron, and FICCI Odisha Chairman Pankaj Satija.
